Frozen Sections/Intraoperative consultations should be pre-booked if possible. Please observe the instructions below for a STAT exam by a pathologist.

  • Do not use formalin.
  • Send the tissue immediately in the fresh state or place it on saline-moistened gauze; do not immerse the specimen in saline. Refrigeration may be required if there is a time delay.
  • Call Pee Dee Pathology to pick up the specimen immediately.
  • After regular hours, the O.R. desk must notify the laboratory of a pending need for a pathologist (e.g., between 5:30 pm and 8:00 am Monday-Friday; also closed on weekends and holidays).
