Bronchial Washings & Bronchoalveolar Lavage Specimens

Washing specimens are collected by installing a balanced saline solution through a bronchoscope and re-aspirating the material. Washings or aspirates collected during the endoscopic examination should be deposited immediately into the Cytolyt® collection vial (50 ml blue top tube) provided by Pee Dee Pathology. Specimens should be properly labeled and delivered immediately to the laboratory.
